Dates & Times: This course is for those attending the 2003 AVLN Conference at Canadian University College. It is worth 1-2 undergraduate credits.

Course Description:
In this course, participants will learn to include active learning strategies, meaningful interactions, and stimulating learning experiences in their online courses. This course is organized around the AVLN standards for online instruction. The course consists of
- Participation in each session of the conference.
- 1 Credit: Attend the full conference (all day Monday through Wednesday) and write a one-page reaction paper to each day. (15-20 hours)
- 2 Credits: Attend the full conference (all day Monday through Wednesday); write a one-page reaction paper to each day; and complete a special project arranged with instructor(s). (30 hours)
Course Objectives:
Participants will:
- Learn to function in an online course.
- Organize materials and instruction for an online course.
- Understand how to create a safe learning environment in an online course.
- Determine what support needs to be provided for an online course.
- Address the relational basis of learning.
- Experience various options for meaningful interactions online.
- Create simulating learning experiences for an online course.
- Discuss and apply methods of integrating faith in an online course.
Modes of instruction: Students in this course will participate in the conference sessions, in online and face to face collaborative groups, access web sites and reading materials, and experience various instructional strategies online.
Course Organization and Requirements:
- Attendance. You must attend all conference sessions.
- Papers: Write a one-page reaction paper to each date.
- Project: Before the conference ends, make arrangements with instructor(s) to complete a special project (for 2 credits).
