Class Schedule

This course is organized on a Monday to Sunday week, so that you can use the weekend to catch up if necessary. However, discussions and readings are expected to occur throughout the week.

Printing this schedule and checking assignments off as completed is highly recommended.

  • Mon: Access Prior Knowledge: Introduce yourself in the Discussion area.
  • Mon: Complete the self evaluation(s).
  • Tues: Read the assigned articles.
  • Wed: Think and Talk: What do you see as some of the advantages and disadvantages of online teaching? Why would you choose to teach online?
  • Thu: Read the Issues & Insights articles on quality in online courses.
  • Fri: Verbalize Your Application: Choose one of the three options.
  • Extra Learning Opportunity: Install Acrobat Reader if necessary.
  • Extra Learning Opportunity: Learn how to keep track of Internet resources if desired.
Week 2
Multiple Interactions for Construction of Knowledge
  • Mon: Access Prior Knowledge: What do you know about interactions?
  • Tues: Read the assigned articles.
  • Wed: Think and Talk: What is the rationale for interactions? What are some ways of facilitating and encouraging interactions?
  • Thu: Read the Issues & Insights articles on facilitating and evaluating online discussion.
  • Verbalize Your Application: Choose two of the four options.
  • Complete the feedback survey for the course.
  • Extra Learning Opportunity: Find out how online students at your institution access the online database of articles. Look up one or more of the library articles listed.
Week 3
Faith Driven and Mission Oriented Online Learning
  • Mon: Access Prior Knowledge: What does the integration of faith and learning mean to you?
  • Tues: Read the assigned articles & watch the videos.
  • Wed: Think and Talk: Why should Christian online courses integrate faith and learning? How might this happen?
  • Thu: Read the Issues & Insights articles on creating a safe learning environment and student perceptions of faith integration.
  • Verbalize Your Application: Participate in the online chapel. Choose one of the options.
  • Extra Learning Opportunity: Search CIRCLE for resources for faith integration or your subject matter.
Week 4
Evaluating the Learning Experiences
  • Mon: Access Prior Knowledge: How do you currently assess your students in your classes? What do you know about online assessment?
  • Tues: Read the assigned articles.
  • Wed: Think and Talk: How might assessment online be the same and different than your face to face teaching?
  • Thu: Read the Issues & Insights articles on assessment, evaluation and cheating.
  • Verbalize Your Application: Choose two of the three options.
  • Complete the final feedback survey for the course.
  • Extra Learning Opportunity: Find out how online students at your institution access the online database of articles. Look up one or more of the library articles listed.
