How to Make Your Course Incorporate Appropriate Assessment Processes

- Ask yourself about the top 3 things you want your students to get out of the class? How
will you assess those 3 things? Is sufficient time spent on the items?- Use a peer evaluation for group work. Here's a sample Group Processing form and a
Peer Evaluation and Peer Review. [pdf]- Use a scoring guide and share it with students so they know how they will be assessed.
Here's a sample Class Discussion Scoring Guide.- Use email or your course software's mail tool to send personalized updates and progress
reports to students. This helps them feel connected to the class/instructor and helps to keep
them on task.- If students are turning in writing assignments done in word processing software, or you
want to make comments within the file, you can use some little tricks to write within the file.
- You can write in ALL CAPS in their paper.
- Or you can use color changes or font changes to mark off your writing from theirs.
- Or if both you and the students are using Word, you can use the Comments feature.
As the instructor, to insert a comment, choose Insert,Comment. Type your Comment.
Close. As the student, choose View Comments. This can work quite well.
