Virtual Institutions and Organizations

California Virtual University [A Collaborative Institution]
"The California Virtual University initiative is designed to help California employers by creating a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week learning environment that can deliver education and training to a workforce anytime, anywhere."

"California.edu and the California Virtual University do not grant degrees or certificates, or answer individual questions about courses. Through this website, we do help you find out about courses and certificate or degree programs offered at a distance by California's leading institutions of higher education; and we do connect you to the appropriate campus to enroll and find out more information."

Consortium for Distance Learning
The Purpose of the Consortium for Distance Learning
"The purpose or goal of the Consortium for Distance Learning is to provide quality learning opportunities and equity of access to higher education for all Northern California students."

The Cyber University

Each course consists of about 50 hours of audio or video tapes or on CD-ROMs or on the Internet with a syllabus and several multiple choice questions on each topic covered. The home study material will be send to each participant followed by followup questions for Internet interactions. All courses are approved for continuing education credit after answering the multiple choice questions."

Jones International, which features courses designed by professors from schools like Columbia and Stanford and taught by part-time professors free-lancing for extra cash, offers bachelor's and master's degrees in business communications. "In the U.S. there are 100 million people who need some kind of additional education, and there are only 15 million seats in universities," says founder Glenn Jones.
