Formatting Text

Let's start out by writing and formatting some text. This will be your first web page. Will this be your classroom homepage? Introduce yourself. Write some text. Practice formatting the text.

These Options Make Changes to the Whole Paragraph
We'll start with second row of buttons. The pull down menu has different styles of text.
Normal is the default standard of normal text.
Headings are split into 6 levels with 1 being the largest and 6 the smallest.
Bullet and Numbered Lists are useful to set off information.
NOTE: These styles change the whole paragraph where the cursor is blinking. Or the new paragraph you may have begun.

The next buttons create numbered and bullet lists as well.

To indent only certain paragraphs, use the indent buttons and choose the appropriate button based on the arrow.

Note:You will notice very quickly that pressing the space bar twice does not give you two spaces. Also you cannot use the tab key. Don't get frustrated! HTML is limited so that the files are small and transfer quickly over the web. You just have to get used to it! Use indent instead of tab.

Aligning Text
To align the text, choose left, center, or right justification from the lined buttons. This changes the whole paragraph.

These Options Make Changes from the Cursor On, or to Text That Is Selected
The a- and a+ buttons increase the font size by certain degrees. You cannot set the font to a particular font size because the browser settings determine the exact size of the font.

The  button turns on Bold, and  turns on italics.

The text color button allows you to change the color of the text.
