Saving and Creating New Pages
Unlike a word processor, each web page is a separate file. So each page must be saved separately.
If you are publishing your pages to your own account (which we are doing in this class), your first page must be called index.htm or index.html. Go back to the introductory page if you need to review this. Other pages should end in .htm or .html and use lowercase and have a length of 8 characters or less.
Also remember the difference between the filename and the title of your web page. The filename is 8 characters or less and ends in .htm or .html. The title is spelled and capitalized appropriately, can include spaces, and shows up when someone bookmarks your page. Go back to the introductory page if you need to review this.
To Save Your File
From the menu, choose File, Save As...
Name the file index.htm
Make sure the file is saved to your disk (NOT in the image folder). Then the first time you save a file, it will ask for a Title.
This is NOT the filename. This title (as it says) is displayed at the top of the window when viewing the page and is also used when a person bookmarks your page. Type a title such as "Welcome to Janine Lim's Home on the Web."
Click OK.To Create Another Page
From the menu, choose File, New Page, Blank Page. (Notice the templates and wizard. Feel free to play with these.)
Type as needed.
Save the file as mentioned above with a name 8 characters or less ending in .htm
(i.e. page2.htm)
