Ideas for Your Page

Now it's time to think about what you would like to put on your page. Why do people create web pages? Some ideas are listed below. See which ones fit your ideas for your web page.

Why Create a Web Page?

Visit some of the sites below. (Each of them will open a new web browser window so that you can easily switch between the assignment here and the other web sites. Just close the window when you are finished and you'll be back here.)

Take a moment now to jot down some ideas of what you want to put on your page.

Storyboarding
After you have become familiar with how to create one web page, you may wish to create more than one. If so, you should make a storyboard (or plan) of how your pages will link together. This will help your pages look organized and people who visit your page will be able to understand how to get around. These are a few options: Use Inspiration for your planning (www.inspiration.com).

This is a linear example. You may use this format with a published story.

This example is called a tree structure. You may have info about yourself on the first page (index.htm); info about your family on page one; info about your hobbies on page two; and info about your work on page three. You decide.

Notice that your first file is called index.htm. Remember that on TAGnet (and many others), the first page is always called index.htm or index.html. This convention is used so that I can type http://www.janinelim.com/ for my URL instead of http://www.janinelim.com/pageone.htm

Organization
You should also decide where you're going to save your pages and your graphic files. If you have more than two or three graphics for your web page, it's a good idea to put them all in a folder of their own. This will keep your files organized. In this case, we are saving the pages to your disk and the graphics to a folder called images on the disk.
