Editing the WebQuest Template
Note: You may want to print this page for future reference. You'll be using it to edit many of the pages for your webquest.
Create a WebQuest Folder
To keep track of the files you will be editing, create a WebQuest folder on your hard drive.
- Click the Start button, go to Programs and choose Windows Explorer.
- On the left-hand side of the screen, click on your hard drive. It is usually labeled (C:) and located close to the top of the list. On the right side of the screen you should see the files and folders that are located on your hard drive.
- From the menu, choose File, New, then Folder. Over on the right-hand side of the screen you should see a folder labeled New Folder. You may have to scroll down on the right side to find it.
- Right click on New Folder and choose Rename from the menu that appears.
- Type WebQuest. Press Enter on the keyboard. Exit Windows Explorer.
Find the Page to Edit
From the class homepage, click on.
Click on
next to your team's name. You'll see a screen like the one below:
On the left you see the folders or directories. You don't need to do anything with these. On the right you see all the files you'll be working on in this class. You'll edit 2 or 3 each week.

This first time, you'll be editing top.htm, task.htm, and t-standards.htm. The chart above shows you when you'll edit the other ones.At the bottom of the screen shown above, you'll see the following buttons. This part is the WebCT FileManager. We'll show you how to use the parts of this that you need.
Click on the name of the page you want to edit. (Jot this down if you think you won't remember it. You'll need it later.) The screen will split in two with the file and its instructions showing on the right. Click on that page (the right side of the screen) to make it active. A black lines will show around the edge.
Edit the Page
From the menu, choose File, Edit Frame.
A new Netscape Composer window will appear with the text available for editing. Notice the menu across the top of your page. This menu has the options for editing the page.
Here's more text formatting instructions if you need them. Edit this page to have your information.
Save the Page
From the menu, choose File, Save As...
You might get a copyright warning message. Don't worry, Bernie Dodge has made these templates available for us to use and given us permission. Click OK.
Find the WebQuest folder that you made earlier.
Double check the filename. It should be identical to the page name you clicked on originally. On the Mac, you may need to type in the filename again.
Then click Save.Publish the Page
From the menu, choose File, Close to close the Netscape Composer window.
You should see the unedited page in the right frame as we did before.
Clickto go back to the list of files for your team's project.
From the button bar at the bottom, choose
. (Note for this part, only the bottom bar will change on your screen - so watch there).
Click the
button to find your edited file. Click once to select it. Then click Open.
The path to your page should appear in the white box. Click Continue.
It may ask if the file should be replaced. Click Continue.(We're replacing the old file with your new changes).
You will see an Upload Report as shown below. Click Continue.You're done! Now you can check it by clicking on the name of your file to see if the changes were really made. You may need to click the Reload button on Netscape's tool bar to see the changes. Click Home to go back. Then you can WebCTMail your team members and tell them about the changes you just made.
